About us

The Founder

Meet Rae Prior, the 22 year old, nuerodivergent founder of Initium Novum (formerly K9s in Action). Since around the age of 6, she has been completely and utterly obsessed with the four-legged creatures we call mans best friend. Growing up, she had her own dog, and several farm animals to tend to including chickens, rabbits, cattle, goats, and even a horse at one point. At the age of 9, she was enrolled into a county 4H club to start showing cattle at the local fair. The first 2 years she showed market beef, getting reserve grand champion market steer with her black Angus "Buttons" her first year showing. After the first 2 years, she made the switch to breeding stock, breeding and competitively showing breeding animals instead of market or feeders.

At the age of 11 a year early, she joined the county junior fair board, and the following year at the age of 12, became a camp counselor for the local summer 4H camp. She spent 8 years on the fair board, 5 as a camp counselor. While she was heavily involved in 4H even from a young age, she was just as involved and passionate about dogs.

At the age of around 6, when having her first dog as a puppy named Roscoe, she took on the responsibility of caring for and training him. While he had obedience down pat, he was also trained in agility, hunting, and various tricks. This sparked a love for training and working with dogs. Ever since, throughout the years, she has dedicated hours a day to learning everything she can about dogs, from training, to breeds and grooming, to diet, and anything else that can be learned. She has competed with her dogs in rally, basic and advanced obedience, agiliy, and JWW, both on a county and state level. She has since turned this passion into a career, making it into a business.

Before relocating to Tennessee, she helped junior handlers in the local dog club and temporarily ran a small training business before having her heart dog (who was also the face of the business at the time) stolen and giving up completely. Now with a new spark, she has decided to reopen and delve back into the world of dogs and helping their people. One day at a time.
